here is my opinions of those questions.
Compare the work of Andre Kertesz and Henri Cartier-Bresson versus the work of Eugene Smith and Sebastio Salgado. They are photojournalist with different approaches.
- What are the main differences and similarities?
They have a different approach of taking photography.
Andre Kertesz and Henri Cartier-Bresson believed that "the photographer should be absolutely unnoticed in order to take a real picture."(week10). Also, they could found the real moment by themselves.
On the other hand, Eugene Smith and Sebastio Salgado were visible in their work and they altered their photos to express their perspectives.
Similarity between those four photographers is their subject. They all take the photos of real event and tried to tell their story.
- Whats the better journalistic approach?
I believed that Andre Kertesz and Henri Cartier-Bresson is better photographers as a journalist
because Eugene Smith and Sebastio Salgado, their approaches and the Code of Ethics of photo journal contradict each other.
Eugene Smith, "his approach to making the photographs was the same as the approach of a painter.
He knew what he wanted form the photographs, he had the images in his head and he tended to create photographs according to that vision."
Therefore, he altered his photos a lot.
Sebastio Salgado believed that interactions with people who are in his photography is necessary.
Thus, he tried to convey his perspective, such as "even people who suffer are beautiful."
Telling the truth is the core meaning of journalist, however, photos taken by those approach can not tell people the real moment.
